The holidays are around the corner. This means peace on earth, joy in heaven, and of course, presents! For that ( analog ) photographer in your life, what do you get them for Christmas that they would appreciate a great deal?  Here are some ideas; [This blog post, as usual, contains affiliate links to Amazon.  I may be compensated if you make a purchase via a link I've provided.] 1. Film This is the obvious one. If your loved one is an analog photographer, or enthusiast, one thing they're constantly buying is film . Find out what camera he/she uses and figure out what film format it takes. The most likely formats are 35mm or 120 (medium format) . seeing red on the southbank

I recently met up with a friend to go shooting. It'd been a while since I'd gone shooting with someone. Can I say, it was tons of fun. Sure, I didn't get into the 'zone' as I usually would, but it was its own kind of fun. London already has its fair share of red things - phone boxes, buses, royal mail stuff, but being christmas, it's looking plenty red in London right now. I spotted countless red christmas 'ugly' sweaters, shoes and of course, hats. Santa hats, obviously, but my favourite for the day was this awesome red fedora this lady had on. The Helios-44-2 was really in its elements with the winter lighting conditions. I basically shot at f/2 the whole time. One thing's certain when you shoot f/2 on the helios - epic bokeh!

i'm dreaming of a white easter

Come to think of it, I haven't got a single Easter card this year.  This may well change in the next few hours.  I did get a few real-life cards for Christmas, so the bar his high. Hypocritically of me, I haven't sent out any either.  I did make some by hand, and some from my stock of photographs, but I just didn't send them.  I have to admit struggling to find any of my photos that where Easter-themed enough.  I used flowers mainly, to signify Spring, like the one below which like the rest of these photos, was taken with my Praktica BCA before the lens packed in.  Yes, they are dried f...

xmas ghost town part 2

Pigeons get a bad rep as flying rats.  Yes, they do exhibit vermin behaviour, but really they're quite awesome little creatures.  They are not very different from their closest relatives - the highly esteemed doves.  They are peaceful and very friendly. One thing pigeons do well is clean up a lot of the mess we leave around.  On Christmas day, there sure is a lot of mess for them to clean up for sure.  This one seemed to be suffering from a sugar crash after consuming too many marshmallows.  It basically stood there motionless while I took this closeup photo.   The east Westfield is said to be the largest indoor shopping complex in Europe.  You can imagine how many thousands of people cross this bridge every hour.  It was quite surreal to cross it without a single person in sight.  From the bridge I could see Stratford International, Stratford Overground, Stratford London Underground, Stratford DLR, Stratford Briti...
